This is why I came
What an experience to have had.
I got up about 8 ,had breakfast and wondered if I would chicken out. I did not
Bike rickshaw to the main gate and then wander working up my nerve I guess.
By the time I arrived at the burning site 1 body was in palce and the fires started. Ok I can deal with this
Watched a long while then wandered around more the back to the site. a Bramain was next washed the puriifation cermeony - washing the body in the Ganges and then off to the special pace for priests to be cremated.samw ceeremony circle the body many times then the sacred fire arrives and the process begins no tears no emotions just process
While I was there many more bodies arrived to the shouts of Ran Ran shan ram as te body i carried to the river for purifiction and the waiting for the pyre to be made ready again ritual circling adding the incence and the ghee and in some cases dried cow dung to speed the process. Only men particiate in this no women there at all except for the foreigners
After lunch I started back to the hotel only to be stopped by a happie occasion- the end of sarswatu puja
Not sure what that means but the school chikldren bring images of the gods to be arried to the Ganges and put in a boat to be dropped in the river amid drums and chants
Magical
Another power failure so I had better stop
See you soon
Take care of each other
